Club fees are now due
|
11 October 2008 |
 |
|
Yes, it’s that time of year again, but
the good news is …… our fees from October 2008 have gone down!!
Click below for a membership update for
your information along with a renewal form. It would be very
helpful if you could print and complete the form and bring it along
to the pool with your cheque(s) payable to RNSC. If you pay by
standing order, you will need to amend the monthly amount and
perhaps you could give Jill a cheque for your membership fee (£5)
and ASA fee, so that your 12 monthly payments can then all be the
same.
Lastly, as the Club appears to have a
very healthy membership at the moment, please could you let me know
if you intend to rejoin for the next 12 months so that we can assess
the situation regarding any new members who approach us.
Thank you all for your continued
support as we look forward to another swimming year.

Hugely successful
Nationals
|
28 October 2008 |
 |
|
Last weekend five of our swimmers
travelled to Sheffield to take part in the A.S.A. British National
Masters Swimming Championships. The trip was hugely successful for
all concerned, as over the three days of intense competition six
medals were won and at least 11 personal bests recorded.
Lesley Cordial became National Champion
in no less than three events, winning the 50 butterfly in 30.95, the
50m backstroke in 33.81, and the 100m Individual Medley in 1.14.70.
She also gained bronze medals in the 100m butterfly in 1.10.64 and
100m freestyle in 1.02.88.
Backstroke specialist Stan Vela won
gold in the 200m backstroke, missing the British record by less than
0.5 of a second, in 2.19.64, silver in the 100m in 1.03.88, and
bronze in the 50m in 30.15.
Karen O’Dea swam a personal best in the
50m butterfly in 32.64, and was unlucky to miss out on a bronze
medal in the 200m Individual Medley, finishing in fourth place in
2.44.23.
Sarah Lusher swam personal bests in the
50m breaststroke in 42.36 and the 100m breaststroke in 1.33.96, and
was also unlucky to finish just outside the medals in fourth place
in the 50m backstroke.
Wayne Hirst knocked an incredible six
seconds off his previous best for the 200m Breaststroke, recording a
time of 3.09.49.Wayne also recorded personal bests in the 50m
(38.19) and 100m (1.25.77) breaststroke.
Lesley, Stan, Wayne and Karen then
joined forces in the mixed 4x50m Medley Relay, finishing in a
creditable 8th place in a time of 2.08.66.
Well done to all our swimmers, and
commiserations to Sue, who missed out due to illness.

Mike goes it alone
|
11 October 2008 |
 |
|
Mike Goddard was our sole
representative this year at the Berks & S Bucks 19th Masters Open Meet
at Maidenhead.
Mike gained his usual fist full of
bling, including Gold in the 200m and 100m backstroke, Silver in the
200m freestyle and 50m backstroke, and Bronze in 100m and 50m
freestyle. Great stuff, Mike! |

Five swimmers compete at
Poole
|
10 October 2008 |
 |
|
Five swimmers travelled down to Dorset
to compete in the 4th Poole Masters Open Meet, and they returned
laden with medals!
Sue led the way with 6 Gold (25m & 50m
fly, 25m & 50m freestyle, 25m & 50m backstroke). Lesley followed
with 5 Gold (25m & 50m fly, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 100m
individual medley).
Karen bagged herself seven medals: Gold
in 25m & 50m fly, 50m freestyle and individual medley, Silver 25m &
50m breaststroke and 25m freestyle. Sarah collected Gold 25m
backstroke, Silver 50m freestyle, and Bronze 50m backstroke, 50m
breaststroke, 25m breaststroke and 100m individual medley.
Duncan added valuable points to the
overall total, competing in the 50m & 25m freestyle and 50m & 25m
fly.
Despite having only five swimmers,
Ruislip-Northwood managed a remarkable sixth out of 24 competing
clubs, so congratulations to all five!

Good medal haul at
Guildford
|
30 September 2008 |
|
|
Only three swimmers made the trip to
Guildford for the South East Regional Championship, and collected a
good haul of medals between them.
There were Golds for Stan in the 100m
and 50m backstroke -it would have been a hat-trick but for a
baffling disqualification in the 200m - and the 200m and 100m
freestyle.
Sue collected Golds in the 200m and
100m butterfly, as well as Bronze in the 50m fly and 100m freestyle.
Wayne passed a huge milestone in the 100m freestyle, breaking the 70
seconds barrier with a time of 1.0.92, and he also took bronzes in
the 200m freestyle and 200m breaststroke, along with solid
performances in the 100m and 50m breaststroke.

Who's Up for the
Euros??
|
15 August 2008 |
 |
|
The XII European Masters Championships
is next being held in Cadiz, Spain from 14 - 20 September 2009, and
although it's over a year away, it's perhaps already time to think
about whether to take part - as accommodation in the area is likely
to be booked up quickly, so early reservations are advisable.
So who's up for it? Who's going to form
a Ruislip-Northwood team within the GB team??

Colmans complete
Channel relay
|
19 July 2008 |
 |
|
Félicitations à la famille de Colman -
on completing their relay Channel Swim in just over 12 hours. Dad
Trevor, sons Ross and Adam, and daughter Tammy swam for one hour at
a time in strict rotation.
Conditions during the swim were good,
though poor Tammy, being on the final leg, had to put some rock
climbing skills into operation in order to "land" on French soil.
Wife and Mum Sue accompanied the family on the support boat. Well
done to all!
Just a thought, though Trev, next time
you want to take the wife and kids to France, wouldn't the ferry be
easier!!

Bracknell 2008
|
4 March 2008 |

|
|
This weekend a much smaller squad mustered the strength to get back
on the blocks again. This time the venue was Bracknell. With only
five swimmers competing there was no chance of team success, but
once again there were huge individual returns.

Isle of Wight 2008
|
25 February 2008 |

|
|
Ruislip Northwood Swim Club Masters returned triumphant from the
Isle of Wight Masters Open Meet last weekend.
A squad of eighteen swimmers accompanied by coach Ron Gilder
competed against thirty other clubs in over 170 races across two
days of intensive competition.
Ruislip Northwood were determined to overturn last year’s result,
when they were beaten into second place by the Royal Navy by just
fifteen points.
